Carvings by Konstantin Soyfer

Konstantin (Stan) Soyfer carves his compositions in high relief, welcoming the challenge of creating three dimensions in the confines of a flat space. Thematically, he is fascinated by the Ice Age wildlife. Giant creatures, such as Woolly Mammoths, are part of our own species' recent past, and Stan hopes that they may remind us of the beauty that still surrounds us.

In this section you can purchase carvings that were hand-made from fossil ivories.

A very delicate and beautiful piece of art, hand carved from woolly mammoth ivory. This is a very spiritual item and a great conversation piece. If you would like to know more about this carving, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Lilith

Fossil Ivory Carving - Lilith

$550.00

I am really not sure why Stan called his carving "Lilith", who is a female Mesopotamian storm demon associated with wind and was thought to be a bearer of disease, illness, and death.

In any case, this is an interesting work of art with fine details and good proportions. There is obviously a tremendous amount of work in this piece. The material is mammoth ivory.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Cliodna

Fossil Ivory Carving - Cliodna

$500.00

Cliodna is a Goddess of beauty and the otherworld. A Tuatha sea and Otherworld Goddess who often took the form of a sea bird and, as such, symbolized the Celtic afterlife. As the ruler of the waves, she was believed to be embodied in every ninth one which broke on shore. This wave was believed to break higher and stronger than the others.

Carved from a fine mammoth ivory, this piece measures 7 inches high.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Raccoons

Fossil Ivory Carving - Raccoons

$370.00

This absolutely amazing carving is made from a root part of fossilized walrus tusk. It shows a family of raccoons playing in the leaves. The carving has lots of details and undercuts, and the wooden stand gives it a nice accent. This carving would be a great display item or a conversation piece.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Seal

Fossil Ivory Carving - Seal

$250.00

The seal is hand-carved from a root section of fossilized walrus tusk. This material is often found on the beaches of St. Lawrence Island, where it is washed ashore. The age of the tusk may be between 100 and 1000 years old.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Walrus

Fossil Ivory Carving - Walrus

$220.00

This carving is made from the root of fossilized walrus tusk, which was found by an Eskimo diver who lives on St. Lawrence Island. Using a boat, he went to a place where walruses lived long time ago and searched for their remains on the sea floor. The waves are usually high there and water is usually muddy.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Sea Turtle

Fossil Ivory Carving - Sea Turtle

$200.00

Stan describes this piece as "an attempt to create a carving of a sea creature in motion", and in my opinion it is a very successful attempt. The carving is made from a relatively thin piece of mammoth ivory, and is situated on a stand from aromatic cedar. The wavy pattern on the stand represents water.

Fossil Ivory Carving - Mammoth King

Fossil Ivory Carving - Mammoth King

$1,000.00

If you are looking for the best carving of the Great Woolly Mammoth, then you have just found it. This carving is the best-shaped and most detailed carving of a mammoth. The original ideal of this figurine belongs to our good friend and teacher, Alexander Kornev, who designed the entire Ice Age chess set where this figurine is the King. Alexander developed the shape, details and the stand for this carving. Stan carved into the highest-quality piece with perfect proportions and symmetry.

The carving is made from Grade A ivory that itself costs $400 (as raw material). Dimensions of this figurine are 3.75 x 3 x 1 inches (without stand). Carving is not available immediately, but can be produced within 2 weeks.

Dear Mr. Soyfer,
...... Now, I want thank you myself for allowing me to purchase such a gorgeous work of art from you. It is indeed beautiful and even now I consider myself fortunate to own such a wonderful work. I very much admire such craftsmanship and skill that it takes to do this…..I simply cannot say enough about it. .......Again, it's not very often I would be able to thank an artist, almost in person, for creating a work of art for me, but now, I am pleased to say thank you so very much for doing that magnificent carving for me.
My kindest regards and thanks,
- Dan
