Intricately carved Mammoth Ivory tusk has been delicately carved and portrays two men or porters as they carry a woman sitting in the palanquin.
However, the scene depicts them taking a break and one of the men is smoking a traditional pipe while the other one is holding twine in one hand.
Notice the posture, facial expressions and the minute motifs, patterns and flow of the garments.
Each fold and curve on the body is clearly visible, giving a real-life appearance to the men and woman.
Although the wooden platform over which the men are standing has been crafted to look like wood, it is pure ivory that has been hand painted to look like wood.
See how placid the woman looks, sitting inside the palanquin while her Japanese footwear is kept close to her.
The traditional Japanese palanquin has been highlight well.
The tunic or Samue have been hand painted to bring out the traditional motifs well.
Look at the rolled up knapsack on top of the palanquin or the side rods which have intricate designs and twists.
The complete sculpture is set on a solid two layered teakwood base.
The top base is supported by lions while the second one forms the base.
The border is lattice carved and lions are intricately carved adding traditionalistic old world charm to the sculpture.
